Biography
Born in Australia, Daveena Cox recently moved to Saudi Arabia as an expat with her family. Primarily working in portraiture, life is very different for her now. Drawing has always been at the base of Daveena’s work, while in Australia she spent time every week on figure drawing, but now in Saudi that time is spent drawing inanimate objects. Daveena uses drawing to process the place she has found herself in. Making images to express the challenges of living in a place where, to protect their virtue women are veiled and treated as a separate species and hidden from the gaze of men, where it is illegal for women to drive or eat at most of the restaurants.
